Tips for a Happy Halloween in Salem

We are less than a week away from one of Salem's favorite days of the year.

SALEM, MA — Halloween is almost here. It's one of the most fun times of the year in the city, but it can also be one of the most stressful. Triple fines are in effect, and parking in the city can be a haunting prospect.

HauntedHappenings.org, the official website for Halloween in Salem, offered some guidelines for a safe Halloween in the city. Residents are urged to report suspicious activity at one of the orange Police tents downtown or by calling the Salem Police at (978)744-1212.

  1. Seek Alternate Routes: residents and visitors are urged not to drive in the city.
  2. Avoid fines and tows by not parking in "resident" zones
  3. Arrive early: it is suggested that you arrive no later that 8:30 p.m.
  4. Don't get stuck!: The garage at the commuter rail station will be closed to cars from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
  5. Read Salem's Halloween Rules
  6. Triple fines are in effect
  7. Be considerate
  8. Check the weather ahead of time
  9. Don't be afraid to ask questions
