Ukraine Crisis The Focus OF Salem State University Discussion

The university's Politics, {olicy and International Relations Department is hosting the virtual expert panel discussion on Monday.

SALEM, MA — A panel of experts from Salem State University's Politics, Policy and International Relations Department will host a virtual panel discussion Monday on the Ukraine crisis and what is at stake amid the Russian invasion.

The public is invited to watch the forum starting at 11:30 a.m. through a link available here.

Vanessa Ruget, a professor in the politics, policy and international relations department, whose scholarship focuses on labor migration to Russia, will moderate the panel.

Additional panelists include:

  • Avi Chomsky, professor of history and coordinator of Latin American Studies at Salem State University. Her work in US-Latin America relations focuses on immigration policies, counterinsurgency, USAID, and hard and soft interventions.
  • Elizabeth Coughlan, associate professor in the politics, policy and international relations department who teaches courses in European Politics and Nationalism, Ethnic Identity and Genocide. She has conducted research on the Polish military and NATO expansion and guest lectured at the Naval War College on Poland's place in NATO.
  • Chris Mauriello, a professor in the history department, director of the Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Salem State University, and coordinator of the university’s graduate certificate in Holocaust and Genocide Studies.
  • Kanishkan Sathasivam, professor in the department of politics, policy and international relations who specializes in international security, the international political economy, and foreign policy analysis. He is the director of the university's Bates Center for Public and Global Affairs.
