VIDEO: Police Seek Group Who Placed Explosives Into a Rainbow Times News Box
BREAKING: Salem Police say an explosion was heard up to a mile away after the device was placed in the news box.
SALEM, MA — Police are seeking seven individuals who placed explosives into a news box belonging to the Rainbow Times early Tuesday morning.
Police say that a group of seven individuals placed an unknown explosive device inside the news box located in Salem Square at around 1:19 a.m. Police say the device caused an explosion that was heard up to one mile away, prompting numerous calls to police.
Salem Police spokesperson Capt. Conrad Prosniewski told Patch that nobody was hurt as a result of the explosion. It is not yet known what type of device was used.

The Rainbow Times is a Boston-based LGBTQ newspaper that was founded in 2006.
In a video posted by the Salem Police Department (which can be viewed below), a group of individuals are pictured walking toward the news box. Several individuals walk away slowly, with a few more running away from the box just seconds after the explosion goes off.

Multiple flashes of light can be seen shooting out from the box.
Police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the individuals responsible for the explosion and ask anyone with information to contact Detective Kevin St. Pierre at 978-744-0171.
