SALEM, MA — New Year's Day in Salem will still look a bit different this year as COVID-19 cases continue to surge in Massachusetts, but some places will open their doors on the first day of 2022.

Salem City Hall closed at 11:30 a.m.on Dec. 30 and will be closed on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.

The Salem Public Libary closed at noon on Thursday and will be closed New Year's Eve, New Year's Day and Sunday.
Banks are also closed on New Year's Day but will be open on New Year's Eve. Check individual branches for hours.

Trash and recycling pickup in Salem will not be interrupted this year because New Year's Day lands on a Saturday. The collection will occur as normal on Friday.
On New Year's Eve, the MBTA's bus and subway lines will be on a Saturday schedule, while everything else runs on a regular weekday schedule. On New Year's Day, most of the T will run on a Sunday schedule, except the commuter rail, which will be on a regular weekend schedule. There will be no New Year's Day ferry service.
Most malls and shopping centers are open on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with limited hours.
Many pharmacies and drug stores are open during normal hours on both New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
Liquor stores will be open on New Year's Day.
