Witches Brew Saugus in Home Win, 48-20

The Salem High School Witches set the pace on Friday, scoring on the opening kickoff in its 48-20 victory over non-conference rival, the 1-1 Saugus High Sachems.

When Chris Bozarjian caught the opening kick at the 15-yard line and ran 85 yards down the far sideline for a touchdown, it looked like the Witches would run away with the game.

But the Sachems answered back, scoring two touchdowns during a back-and-forth first quarter, which ended 14-13 in favor of the Witches. The Sachems tied the game 6-6 on a long pass play and scored again after Witches quarterback Brad Skeffington made a nine-yard run for a touchdown and two-point conversion pass to captain and wide receiver Joey Dinh.

The Witches broke out to a 20-13 lead on a 60-yard Skeffington pass to a wide-open Dinh, who ran untouched for a touchdown before halftime.

Salem nearly put the game away in the third quarter with another long touchdown pass from Skeffington to Dinh, and a two-point conversion pass from Skeffington to Antonio Reyes, bringing the score to 28-13. 

Saugus came back with another touchdown to close the gap to 28-20, but early in the fourth quarter, Skeffington broke away for a 65-yard TD run and another long run to the end zone, a 60 yarder, to make it 40-20.

Just after the two-minute warning, Salem's Greg Speliotis sealed the deal with a nine-yard touchdown run to cement the final score.
