3 Killed, 6 Hurt in Horrific I-195 Crash
Breaking: 3 killed, 6 hurt after a taxi van struck a BMW head-on on Interstate 195 in Westport Wednesday morning.
WESTPORT, MA — Three people were killed and six more were hurt in a horrific crash on Interstate 195 in Westport Wednesday morning. Five vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at about 8:15 a.m.
Police said a Dodge Caravan taxi with three occupants traveling westbound swerved across the median and struck a BMW 328i with three occupants. The taxi driver, a taxi passenger, and the BMW driver, identified as a 23-year-old New Bedford woman, were killed. The remaining taxi passenger and two BMW passengers, identified as a 25-year-old Fall River man and a young New Bedford boy, were hospitalized; the extent of their injuries was unclear as of Wednesday afternoon. State Police withheld the identities of the victims pending family notification.
After the initial crash, a 27-year-old Vermont man driving a Subaru Outback struck the BMW; his vehicle caught fire, police said. The man suffered minor injuries.

Police said two more cars crashed into the pile. One car was a 2001 Audi A4 operated by a 34-year-old Fall River man. The other was a Chevrolet Suburban operated by a 73-year-old Rhode Island man. Both were hospitalized with minor injuries.
Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
