'Belligerent' Man Leaves Police With Memorable Booking Photo

We don't think he was telling police they were No. 1.

DARTMOUTH, MA — A "belligerent" New Bedford man arrested on OUI charges left police with a memorable, if off-color, booking photo.

Keith Avila, 34, was arrested early Saturday evening after police said he drove his Subaru into a utility pole, severing it and shutting down traffic. Avila wasn't injured, but police said he was contentious from the moment they arrived.

Avila was taken to police headquarters, where he allegedly threatened officers and urinated in a trash can while handcuffed to the booking room wall. Avila also banged his head against the bathroom wall, but police say that didn't injure him, either.

Avila was charged with OUI liquor, marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, having an open container of liquor in a motor vehicle, intimidation of a witness and vandalism. He also received a town by-lawviolation for having an open container of marijuana in a motor vehicle.
