Seekonk Stop & Shop: Bomb Squad Called

Seekonk police and the state police bomb squad responded to the Stop & Shop Monday for a suspicious device.

SEEKONK, MA — A suspicious container found at the Seekonk Stop & Shop Monday night prompted a response from the state police bomb squad. Police said the plastic container affixed with LED lights was discovered at about 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot. As a precaution, the grocery store and a nearby CVS were closed.

Bomb disposal experts determined the container was harmless and had discarded food inside. The purpose of the LED lights was unclear, according to Seekonk Police Chief Craig Mace.

The scene was cleared by about 8:30 p.m. and the stores were reopened.
