Learning to Live Together

The end of the government shut-down: We need to refrain from gloating or lashing out against those whose views differ from ours. The country is completely polarized. We cannot end the polarization by demonizing others. The enemy is not people, but hatred and violence. When the Montgomery Bus Boycott ended in 1956, Black bus riders were given cards instructing them about behavior and attitude -- that they should quietly feel the victory but in no way make white bus riders feel uncomfortable. Can we do that today? The challenge is to figure out how we will all learn to live together. We have a lot of inner work to do.
