Man Kills Himself After Police Pursuit

A man who was said to be suicidal and armed had threatened to shoot anyone who would try to stop him.

FREEPORT, MA — A Maine man threatening to harm people ended up fatally shooting himself following a police pursuit.

State Police were advised late Saturday night to look out for a red Ford Explorer with a Maine registration that was driving erratically on Route 24 South in Raynham. Police learned the driver, a 32-year-old from Millinocket, Maine, was suicidal, armed, and had threatened to shoot whoever may try to stop him.

A trooper spotted the vehicle shortly before midnight on Route 140 in Freetown. The driver would not stop for the trooper, but soon after stopped on Route 140 at Route 6 and immediately shot himself, police said.

The man was transported to St. Luke's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
