The New Year: Ideal Time for An Annual Check-Up - And A New Doctor
Your Car Gets An Annual Check-up -- Shouldn't You?

CANTON, MASS. (Issued Winter 2015) -- The state requires that you have a car inspection each year. Though not mandated, you should at least do the same for your body.
“And there is usually no co-pay for physicals,” says Dr. Timothy Lowney who founded Family Medical Associates in Canton 35 years ago. His practice, with offices in Canton and Seekonk, is now accepting new patients. As you ring in the New Year, many health care professionals suggest this is a perfect opportunity to assess your physical status.
“Everyone should have a regular physical – a snapshot of your overall health,” says Dr. Lowney. “Just as important as the checkup is helping to build a relationship with your primary care provider.”

The New Year is also a good time to implement a weight management and exercise program. This reduces this risk of developing many different illnesses including heart disease and diabetes. By maintaining your annual visits, you can also address those nagging issues like chronic back pain and other musculoskeletal issues.
Dr. Timothy Lowney, Jr., joined the practice this past year and brings an added dimension to Family Medical Associates. He studied Musculoskeletal/Sports Medicine and is a specialist in Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT) that involves using the hands to diagnose and treat illness or injury.

“Our medical team takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health care,” says Dr. Lowney. “Rather than just treating specific symptoms, the osteopathic philosophy is to treat the person as a whole. The body has innate abilities to heal itself. Our role is as a wellness guide, to inform and motivate patients to be their best self, keeping in mind the body sometimes needs help along the way.”
