Kyle Mello, of Middletown, RI, had a gun in his car that was reported stolen in Georgia, police said.
SEEKONK, MA – A 23-year-old Rhode Island man arrested in a Seekonk parking lot last week had a gun in his car that was reported stolen in Georgia, police said. Kyle Mello, of Middletown, RI, was approached by a Seekonk police officer after pulling into the parking lot of Motel 6 on Fall River Avenue around 2:14 a.m. on June 7.
Police said the officer performed a well-being check on Mello, given the number of overdoses that occur in cars. It was determined Mello had a warrant out for his arrest, and he was placed in custody. He was not a registered guest at the motel.
During a search of his car, police allegedly found an unloaded .32-caliber revolver in the console that had been reported stolen in Georgia. He was charged with leaving a firearm in a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and violation of alcohol and marijuana open container laws.
