Seekonk Showcase Cinemas theater to raise money for the Jimmy Fund in 67th annual Theatre Collections this summer

Seekonk, MA – July 5, 2016 – Now through July 28, local theater patrons can contribute to the Jimmy Fund via canisters or text to give as part of the 67th annual Jimmy Fund/Variety Children’s Charities Theatre Collections at participating National Amusements and Apple Cinemas theaters in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Ohio. All contributions go directly to the Jimmy Fund, which supports lifesaving adult and pediatric patient care and cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.

Since 1949, participating movie theaters have shown a brief Jimmy Fund movie trailer before the start of feature films. After the trailer, volunteers and theater personnel invite guests to contribute to the Jimmy Fund by passing collection canisters through the audience. New this year is an option for movie-goers to text to give via their mobile phones.

The Jimmy Fund is seeking volunteers to pass collection canisters to guests during designated show times. Volunteers earn prizes depending on how much time they commit to the program. These range from Jimmy Fund hats and t-shirts to complimentary movie passes and Boston Red Sox tickets.

The canisters will be passed in participating theaters each day of the week during the following select show times:

· Sundays: 12 to 4 PM, 4 to 8 PM, and 6:30 to 10:30 PM

· Mondays through Thursdays: 6:30 to 10:30 PM

· Fridays: 4 to 8 PM

· Saturdays: 12 to 4 PM and 4 to 8 PM

Theatre Collections is the Jimmy Fund’s longest-running fundraising effort. Since its inception in 1949, the program has raised more than $30 million for the Jimmy Fund. In its early years, Theatre Collections attracted the support of legendary movie stars including James Cagney, Loretta Young, Bing Crosby, and baseball’s Ted Williams.
