Seekonk, Swansea Students' Test Scores Near State Average

Seekonk and Swansea students scored near the state average on the controversial PARCC tests.

The computer-based PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) tests were administered in the spring. Not every school district in Massachusetts participated, as some have complained the test is too hard and unfairly measures teacher performance.

Statewide, 52 percent of students scored in the “met or exceeded expectations” range in math, while 60 percent hit that mark in English.

In Seekonk, those figures were 62 percent and 67 percent, respectively. In Swansea, those figures were 46 percent and 59 percent.

“These results help show schools and communities how students fared against a new measurement,” said Education Secretary James Peyser in a statement. “I am glad to have these results in hand as the Board contemplates different options for statewide assessments.”
