
The 10A all-stars of the Swansea Independent Baseball League held off the Tri-City Bombers of Troy, N.Y., 11-6, Sunday to capture the championship of the five-team Mustang League North Region Tournament of PONY Baseball contested at the Nike Site Playing Complex in Swansea.
Capping a perfect 3-0 weekend, the SIBL stars rebounded from an early 2-0 deficit against Tri-City and settled the issue with a four-run outburst in the fourth inning. Solid pitching, timely hitting and aggressive baserunning sealed Swansea's success.
Swansea’s roster includes Devyn Vezina, Brandon Medeiros, Colby Campos, Devin Machado, Connor Carey, Alec Janicki, Josh Ferreira, Nolan Potter, Luke Escobar, Evan Thro, Brandyn Durand, Jared Rapoza, Manager Blake Campos and coaches Ernie Rapoza and Jason Machado.

On Sunday, the SIBL entry snapped a 4-4 draw in the bottom of the third inning on run-scoring hits from Thro and Medeiros and was never headed. Swansea's fourth-inning eruption was keyed by Durand’s two-run double.
Campos and Potter both pitched three solid innings for the winners and Medeiros, Vezina and Potter all collected two hits.

The SIBL club now advances to the East Zone Tournament in Chesterfield, Virg., which starts Thursday. In its opener in the four-team, double-elimination event in Virginia, Swansea will face South Region titleist Southampton-Sussex of Virginia at 5:30 p.m. In the other first-round pairing, host Chesterfield, Virg., will test West Region kingpin Mars, Penn.
The Zone tourney continues with three games Friday and either one or two contests Saturday. The tournament champion will advance to the Mustang League World Series in Burleson, Texas, starting Aug. 1.
According to SIBL President Andy Fyfe, Sunday marked the 10th time in 31 years that the league has secured the Mustang League North Region Tournament title.
