Summer has come to the Swansea Public Library!

The Swansea Public Library starts summer on July 7th with a booming schedule of events and programs to celebrate the Summer Reading Theme:  Fizz, Boom, Read.

The 7 week summer reading program encourages children, teens and adults to read throughout the summer and is sponsored by St. Dominic’s Credit Union.  Register at the library or online at www.readsinma.com.  The library will have free programs and events all summer long.  This year, patrons will be reading to raise money to sponsor a cat enclosure at the Faxon Animal Rescue League in memory of beloved library cat, Penny.  Penny came to the Swansea Public Library from Faxon and all of the books that are read will raise money to help other cats live happy lives while they are awaiting their forever homes.   Complete a book log and or Book Bingo sheet and drop them off at the library.  Extra sheets are available.   We will end our summer programs with a special concert on Thursday, August 14th with the talented duo of Davis & Roger presenting,  This Land is Your Land: A Song and Story Celebration for all ages along with a cup cake decorating party.    Summer reading is fun reading.  And don’t forget that studies have shown that children who read during the summer maintain their reading skills.

On Monday July 7th the summer reading program kicks off with the Pre-school story hour at 10:30AM.  The theme is Science and each week we will read books about fun science subjects (dinosaurs, rockets, sea creatures, stars) and also create a craft for kids to take home.  Story Time will take place on the front lawn of the library, weather permitting.   Lego Club starts again every Monday afternoon at 3:30PM.  We have a large collection of Lego’s to play with.  Come to the library to build, dream and create.
Every Tuesday the Library will visit the Swansea Mall for Story Time for children of all ages which begins at 11:00AM followed by a craft and coloring time.  Our Science theme programs continue with movies from noon to 2PM every Tuesday afternoon.  We will show a different movie each week in the Junior Room including animal and nature documentaries.  Popcorn and refreshments will be served.  Our drop-in craft program will follow from 3:30-5:00PM for ages 6-10.

Wednesdays we offer a second session of our Pre-School story hour at 10:30AM.  From noon to 2PM Book Bingo is back along with other Board Games.  From 3-4PM we will gather for our Summer Book Club where kids of all ages will talk about what they are reading and how they are progressing with their summer reading lists and reading for fun.  This is for children and parents alike.  The Swansea Anime Club will meet from 4:00-6:00PM in the Junior Room the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.  Join our newest club for great fun.  Watch anime, talk about the newest books, games and anime fashion!

Every Thursday at 10:30AM the library welcomes the Oak Knoll Audubon Society.  Sign up for entertaining and educational programs every Thursday starting July 10 through August 14.  Each week we will have a different program.  Join us as we learn all about the natural world with the folks from Audubon.
