Swansea Nurse Receives the “Heart of Home Care” Award from the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care

Pamela Thornton of Swansea, a licensed practical nurse with BAYADA Home Health Care in Providence, RI, has received the Heart of Home Care Award from the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care, an organization representing all licensed home care, home nursing care, and hospice agencies serving clients throughout Rhode Island. The award was presented at the organization’s 23rd annual meeting, held September 19 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Warwick.

The Heart of Home Care Award recognizes one exceptional employee in the Rhode Island home care and hospice industry who provides quality and compassionate care, and who plays a significant role in the lives of people at an extremely vulnerable time in their lives. Thornton was nominated by the BAYADA Providence office because of her exceptional care and compassion working with her pediatric clients, as well as the excellent clinical training she has provided to student nurses at the New England Institute of Technology over the past year.

"Pam exemplifies the true meaning of the 'Heart of Home Care',” said Nicholas Oliver, Executive Director of the Rhode Island Partnership for Home Care. “There are so many dedicated, hardworking, and compassionate home health care professionals in Rhode Island. However, the drive that Pam has to focus on patient-centered care—and mentoring future home care professionals—makes her contributions to our industry stand above the rest of the workforce this year."

Thornton has made a special connection with Hailey M., a four-year-old client with a seizure disorder and a G-tube.

“Pam is energetic, intense, compassionate and caring,” said Cyndy M., Hailey’s mother, who is thrilled and impressed with the help Thornton has provided her daughter. “She knows how to encourage Hailey, and push her to work harder and grow stronger every day.”
