Vietnam History Day at Battleship Cove

Join Battleship Cove as we delve into the history of the Vietnam War, honor the sacrifices of our troops and give thanks to the veterans still with us today on Saturday, March 28, from 9:00am – 4:00pm at Vietnam History Day.


Over 2.6 million American men and women served within the borders of South Vietnam during the war and in recognition of our troops, all Vietnam Veterans will receive free admission all day long.

Peek inside the Bell UH-IM Iroquois helicopter and learn about its two tours in Vietnam and tour areas of the Joseph P. Kennedy Jr., not usually open to the public. The Kennedy, which houses an official war memorial to those who served in Vietnam will also offer quite reflection to honor our brave men and women.

Schedule:

9:00am-4:00pm: Living History
Visitors can view displays of uniforms and equipment used by American Forces in the Vietnam War.

9:00am-4:00pm: Huey Helicopter Showcase
Battleship Cove’s Bell UH-1M Iroquois helicopter saw action in the Vietnam War and has the battle damage to prove it. Take a rare look inside with Vietnam Veteran Crew Chief, Peter Santangelo.

10:00am-3:00pm (on the hour): Guided Tours of the USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr.
45-60 minute tour focusing on the technology and tools the ship used to do her job during war-time efforts.

11:00am: Helicopter Flight FUNshop in the PT Boat Building
More than 5,000 helicopters flew in the skies above Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War. Make your own helicopter out of popsicle sticks and rubber bands and then launch it into the sky!

2:00pm: Helmet Graffiti FUNshop in the PT Boat Building
Soldiers wrote and drew on their helmets as a way to express themselves during the Vietnam War. Make your own graffiti on a plastic helmet in this hands-on FUNshop!

FUNshops are $5.00 in addition to general admission, but free for members. A FUNpass can be purchased at the museum gift shop the day of the event. The FUNpass is good for all FUNshops happening that day.
