What's Happening at the Swansea Public Library

The leaves may be changing soon but it still feels like summer here on
Main Street and the Swansea Public Library is entering
another busy season.

Fall Story Hour and several book related programs are starting the week of
Monday September 16th and the library is holding sign ups now until
September 30th.  Programs will be offered on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday.  Sign- ups have started and space is limited so stop by the library or call today at 508-674-9609.  Fall story hour sessions will last through the week of Halloween and will conclude with our annual stroll through the stacks, a costume contest and Halloween party. Please remember that all children who attend Story Hour must be accompanied by a parent, grandparent, or caregiver.

Every Monday we will have Pre-school story hour from 10:30-11:30am.  Join
us as we celebrate the Fall Season in all its glory with fall and farm, ghosts and goblin stories, harvest and halloween crafts and ending with our annual party and stroll through the stacks.  This story hour is for 3-5 year olds (but little brothers and sisters can come too).  Also on Monday, the Lego Club resumes from 3:30-4:45.  Use your imagination to build, create and design all sorts of things.

Tuesdays mornings we will offer Toddler’s Tales, our Early Readers program for ages 3 and under from 11:00-11:45am.  Children who are strong readers have a much greater chance of success at school, and research shows that children get ready to read years before they start school.  Join us as we read age appropriate stories and help children develop early literacy skills.

Wednesday’s are busy at the library starting with a second session of the
Fall Pre-school story hour.  If you cannot make Monday, we offer the same
story hour again from 10:30-11:30am.   Drop-in crafts will be available for children ages 5-8 from 2:30-3:30.  We will be creating fall and Halloween crafts in the Junior Room.  And at 3:30am our Dinosaurs, Dogs and Donuts book club begins.  Read stories about dinosaurs and dogs (and other things) while sharing a delicious donut snack.  It’s “Dino”mite Wednesdays in Swansea.

Thursday morning’s at 10:30am, the Library Coloring Club returns.  Stop by and color one or more fall themed coloring pages.  All materials are provided.
The Thomas the Train club meets from 11:30am-1:00pm.  Come and play with our collection of trains and tracks and enter the world of Thomas and his friends.

Our Super Hero Story Hour is back.  We will read super hero stories.
Bring your action figures to play.  Create your own superhero! We will
also be making a craft each week that will result in a completed super
hero costume by Halloween.  Our first meeting is Thursday September 19th
and we will be reading batman stories along with making a cape.  You must register to attend this program.
Spilling Ink, our kids writing club continue to meet on Thursdays from 3:30-5:00.  New members are invited to attend.  We are working on individual stories, our group project, writing contests and the new Literary Magazine.
