Limited Shares in Moose Hill Farm’s CSA Program Still Available
The Trustees of Reservations (The Trustees) announce they have a new free-range egg business at Moose Hill Farm in Sharon with the arrival of 300 Golden Comet

The flock enjoys free-range feeding on fresh forage, like bugs and grasses, on the ample farm pastures. The flock also gets their fill of vegetables and minerals from veggie scraps from the Moose Hill Farm Community Supported Agriculture. Their shelter – a mobile chicken coop or chicken tractor – is ideal for moving the hens from field to field.
With 300 hens scratching and feeding, the chickens are doing their fair share of work at the farm. Their foraging helps prep fields and soils for the next season’s crops by reducing reduce weed seed, plant diseases, and “bad bugs”
while supplying nutrient-rich “fertilizer” to the pastures.

About Moose Hill Farm
Starting in the 1930s, Moose Hill Farm was home to a 60-head herd of Guernsey milk cows, prized for their milk’s high fat content. More than 170 acres of this scenic property was dedicated to growing hay and grain for the cattle. The farm remained an active dairy until 1960. Since then, the fields have been home to beef cattle, haying operations, and – most recently – protected habitat for many grassland bird species.
About The Trustees and Farms
The Trustees have long supported protection of prime farmland throughout the Commonwealth. In addition to owning and managing 13 working farms statewide and 40 agricultural properties, The Trustees also operate a 300-member CSA at Powisset Farm in Dover, a 550-member CSA at Appleton Farms in Ipswich and Hamilton, as well as new CSAs at Weir River Farm in Hingham, and Moraine Farm in Beverly. At Long Hill in Beverly, The Trustees lease farmland to the Lincoln-based Food Project, an innovative program that brings urban and suburban youth together to grow produce for local farm stands and hunger relief organizations. The Trustees also provide farmland on the Bradley Estate in Canton to Brookwood Community Farm.
