On Sunday, Oct. 9, a steely-eyed set of volunteers supplied with a pile of piney
planks descended on the site of the new Massapoag Brook Bridge.
Some weeks before, two 30-foot phone poles had been laid across to brook. After one rainy day cancellation, the project was back on. Almost as soon as the planks were laid out-- even before nails were driven-- an intrepid hiker, Lisa Sedonia, made the crossing and effectively christened the bridge.
The bridge makes it once again easy to stroll, bird watch, dog walk--or just walk--
along the Massapoag trail which runs from Lake Massapoag to Belcher Road.

The bridge is located near the end of Brook Road. Enter the trail between houses
138 and 140 and take a right at the intersection. The bridge is about 400 feet
down the trail. A good, waterproof map of the Massapoag Trailcan be had by
contacting Sharon Friends of Conservation. (The one on the website is
simplified. Email SFOC for a detailed version with notes.)
