'One Book' Events Start Feb. 26

Programs celebrating "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay," by Michael Chabon kick off on Feb. 26.

The One Book, One Town: Sharon Read Together Committee is pleased to announce programming for this year's One Book selection,"The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay" by Michael Chabon.

Events kick off on Feb. 26 and include programs, activities, and feats of derring-do that celebrate this Pulitzer Prize-winning novel. Come join us as we follow Joe and Sammy's escapades through the action-packed worlds of comic books, magic, politics and post-World War II America.

This year’s programming should be especially fun, interactive and appealing to Sharon-ites of all ages. Come join us for a free magic show by a master magician, Brian Baskin.

Mat Brown of Building 19 fame and Devin Quin of Dead Fish Comics will host Sharon's first-ever Comic-Con on the history and art of comic books. Rabbi Barry Starr will explain the significance of the golem figure both in Judaism and in "Kavalier & Clay." Storyteller Judith Black will regale us with original tales inspired by this great novel.  And the final event of the month-long festivities is an evening with celebrated political cartoonist Dan Wasserman of The Boston Globe.

Two interactive events have been planned with a Manga and Comic Art Workshop for ages 9 to 16 hosted by Andy and Veronica Fish, and a Skyscraper Building Contest with prizes in all age categories.

Several book discussions, including the popular "Calling All Book Clubs," and three great films are part of this year’s programming.  We can't give away the titles of the films, but here are some important clues: think "Fay Wray" and "Rosebud."  There is also a partner program with Sharon Pluralism Network to screen an animated film that follows a young girl as she comes of age against the backdrop of the Iranian Revolution.

All events are presented free of charge thanks to the generosity of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation and brought to you by the Sharon Public Library's One Book, One Town: Sharon Reads Together Committee.  Watch for more details, and we look forward to seeing you at the programming.
