Pole-arizing: New Massapoag Brook Bridge
A new bridge will soon span the Massapoag Brook, built by Sharon Friends of Conservation, with help from Sharon's Department of Public Works and Dedham Savings Bank.
The Sharon Friends of Conservation would like to thank the Sharon Department of Public Works for its assistance in moving two 30 foot-long utility poles a quarter mile down the Massapoag Trail to the Massapoag Brook.
The poles were estimated to weigharound 1,000 pounds each. They are to be supports for a new bridge across the brook.
The old bridge, a primitive (though it lasted 15 years) structure has finally reached the end of its days and is now very risky to traverse.

The new bridge is designed to be much heavier and stronger, immune to the occasional flash-flood cataracts which have carried away lesser bridges. It is also proof against thecasual vandalism of which, unfortunately, the old bridge was a victim. This stream crossing is critical to the Massapoag Trail and is used many Sharonites as well as out-of-town visitors. The site of the crossing is one of the most scenic on Sharon’s trails.
The poles were purchased with a donation from Dedham Savings Bank. Special thanks should go to DPW workers Mike Teixeira, Jeff Watterson and Eric Bucaria, who tackled the pole-moving task with enthusiasm and great competence. Thanks also to Eric Hooper, DPW superintendent and Bill Petipas, operations division manager.
