Temple Israel of Sharon Welcomes Benjamin Maron as New Executive Director
Temple Israel of Sharon is pleased to announce the selection of Benjamin Maron as its new Executive Director. Maron officially began his position on May 6. Maron replaces Temple Israel’s previous Executive Director, Debbie Astor, who is retiring after more than twenty years of service. Astor is being recognized for her dedication to the community at a Shabbat gala in her honor on May 17th.
Maron, previously the Director of Content and Educational Resources at InterfaithFamily in Newton, will bring his passion for Jewish community and tradition to Temple Israel. Maron is interested in fostering the welcoming atmosphere at Temple Israel and working to continue to offer programming and services that meet and exceed the interests of our members and larger community.
Maron looks forward to working with the Temple staff, clergy and lay leadership to create new opportunities to attract members and further establish the synagogue as a center for the Sharon community. While Temple Israel is already a leader in innovation, Maron plans to continue to grow the presence of the shul in the coming years.
"On behalf of the entire Temple Israel community, I am excited to welcome Benjamin as our new Executive Director," stated Mitchell Rose, Temple Israel President. "Benjamin's past experience and passion for the Jewish community will continue to create a vibrant and meaningful shul for our members and guests," continued Rose.
“Benjamin comes to us with great enthusiasm for Jewish life and a sincere commitment to the synagogue as a vital institution in building community. Cantor Dress, I, the staff and leadership welcome him in his new role and look forward to working with him in the years to come,” stated Rabbi Barry Starr.
In addition to his involvement in the Jewish community, Maron is an avid Scrabble player, social media advocate and a big fan of camping and spending time on the water kayaking.
Temple Israel, founded in 1937, is the largest traditional egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Southeastern Massachusetts. Temple Israel offers a wide and varied range of religious services, classes, and events -- from pre-K to mature adults - all designed to engage, inspire, and excite the mind, body and spirit. Most programs are open to the public.
