Dana Farber Marathon Challenge

My name is Tim Shaughnessy and I currently live in Sharon with my wife Melissa.

I will be running in the 2014 Boston Marathon as a member of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC) Team.  As a member of the team for the 118th running, we work together to support the fight against cancer, both financially and through community events centered around the Boston Marathon.  Since its founding in 1947, The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute has been committed to providing adults and children with cancer with the best treatment available today while developing tomorrow's cures through cutting-edge research.  Through it’s core values of Impact, Excellence, Compassion, and Discovery, Dana-Farber's ultimate goal is the eradication of cancer, AIDS, and related diseases.

Nearly everyone today has been affected by cancer, either directly or indirectly.  Many have had their lives changed forever.  I am personally running in honor of the families of two close friends.  These individuals, who were there all throughout college and at my wedding, have parents who are currently battling cancer everyday.  My wife and I have been lucky to have them in our lives for the past 5 years.  In addition, I will also be running in honor of our future daughter who will be 3 months old on historic Patriot’s Day in Boston – what better way to introduce her to some of the deepest traditions of her hometown!

Naturally, part of this event is fund-raising for Dana-Farber to support innovative cancer research and treatment across the world.  I would like to personally ask for your support, whether it is financially or through moral encouragement during the training and fundraising process.  Any size donation can help to make this the largest fundraising year in DFMC’s 25 year history.  One hundred percent of the funds raised by DFMC team members directly support cancer research.  To date, DFMC has raised more than $61 million, and nearly 200 innovative scientific investigations have received critical funding.  In 2014, the team aims to celebrate its 25th year by raising $5.3 million collectively.  Donating is very easy:

1.       Visit www.rundfmc.org

2.       Select the “Support a Runner” tab

3.       Search for “Tim Shaughnessy”

or, show your support by purchasing a Marathon Challenge shirt at: https://www.bonfirefunds.com/dana-farber-marathon-challenge.  Additional donations can also be made from this site.  If you are donating in memory or in honor of someone, please note that.  I will be displaying all of the names during the 26.2 mile run from Hopkinton to Back Bay.

Thank you in advance for all of your support and encouragement!
