Get on board the Summer Reading Odyssey with School on Wheels of Massachusetts

School
on Wheels of Massachusetts
(SOWMA), the only organization in Massachusetts
providing customized one-on-one tutoring, backpacks, school supplies, college
assistance, educational advocacy, and parental support for students impacted by
homelessness, is seeking volunteer tutors and book-lovers for its Summer
Reading Odyssey
, a five-week program beginning the week of July 7.



Tutors will meet for one hour each
week with a small group of students for reading and writing activities. Students’
progress will be tracked along the way, and the program will end with a
celebration at each tutoring site!



The program is being run at four locations:

  • Family Life Center, Brockton, Tuesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm

  • Louison Center, Brockton, Wednesdays, 6:30-7:30 pm

  • Lincoln Tech, Brockton, Wednesdays, 6:00-7:00 pm

  • Quality Inn, Brockton, Mondays, 6:00-7:00 pm


  • All volunteers must attend a 2.5-hour tutor training on either Wednesday,
    June 25, 6-8:30 pm, or Saturday, June 28, 12-2:30 pm.
    Tutors who have attended
    SOWMA’s regular tutor training do not need to stay for the last 30 minutes of
    the summer program training. Register online at www.sowma.org.
