Save the date March 30 - for a Book signing at Sharon Historical Society next Sunday 2-4 pm!
"Postcard History of Norfolk County, Massachusetts”, a fascinating and educational new book, has just been published. Please mark your calendar for Sunday, March 30, from 2-4 pm, for a "Meet the Author" and Book Signing celebration at the Yellow Schoolhouse Museum of Sharon Historical Society, 16 High St., (near the library and Congregational church).
Paul and James Tedesco, a father and son team, collaborated with residents of each of the 28 communities of the county to create this book. Sadly, James, the younger member of the team, died unexpectedly just as the book was about ready to be printed. He was so excited about the book and the opportunity to work with each of the community contributors. Thankfully, his father and mother were able to meet the challenge to complete the book, in his honor.
This large, 418 page hardcover book is richly illustrated with reproductions of vintage postcards – many in full color – which were contributed by the Historical Societies of each of the 28 towns of Norfolk County. Each illustration has an accompanying "story" that will edify and entertain you. Each chapter also contains a photograph of the “Entering (Town Name)” sign, an image and history of the town seal, a brief history of the town, list of facts about the town, and a list of notable residents of the town and their accomplishments.

Of course, our beloved home town of Sharon is featured prominently in this book. Sharon native, Shirley Harris Schofield, a longtime member and past President of the Sharon Historical Society and a member and past Chairperson of the Sharon Historical Commission, contributed vintage postcards and authored the chapter on Sharon.
In sum, this new book provides a Norfolk county history in a more complete and beautifully illustrated way than has ever been done before. The book’s clear and interesting text, along with the numerous illustrations, will appeal to children as well as adults. Families will likely be motivated to visit some of the memorable sites detailed - in Sharon and in neighboring towns.
