The Sharon eighth grade boys "A" travel basketball team won the Division 1 State Championship on March 24, defeating Foxborough, 55-54.
In a back and forth battle where neither team could extend a lead past 6 points, Sharon's Jordan Mello-Klein hit a runner in traffic with 2.3 seconds left to secure the win.
After a timeout, Sharon collectively held its breath and survived a half court shot at the buzzer that narrowly missed.
Prior to playing Foxborough in the championship game, Sharon defeated Nauset on the state quarterfinals, 42-37, and then defeated Randolph in the semifinals, 65-44.
Sharon finished with a 29-7 record, including 11-3 in the Metrowest Basketball League's ultra-competitive Division 1. The team also won the Easton Muscato
Holiday Tournament for the fourth time in five years.
