Sharon's September Unemployment Rate Climbs Slightly

Sharon saw its unemployment rate climb slightly over the month of September, according to numbers released by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development.

According to the office's figures, the town's rate increased from 5.4 in August to 5.5 percent in September. Last September's rate, however, was 6.3 percent.

The state saw a decrease in its seasonally-adjusted rate, dropping from 7.4 percent to 7.3 percent.

The unemployment rates for area towns follow:

• Dover's unemployment rate dropped from 3.9 percent in August to 3.7 percent last month. Last year's rate was 5.3 percent.
• Easton had its unemployment rate remain at 5.5 percent for both August and September. Last September's rate was 7.6 percent.
• Foxborough's rate increased from 5.9 percent in August to 6.5 percent last month. September 2010's rate was 7.5 percent.
• Mansfield saw a slight decline in its rate, from 6.2 percent to 6.1 percent. Last year's rate was 7.5 percent.
• Medfield's unemployment rate increased slightly, from 4.9 percent to 5.3 percent, while last September's rate was 6.5 percent.
• Norfolk had its rate fall from 6.4 percent to 6.2 percent. The rate in September 2011 was 7.4 percent.

• Norton's unemployment rate dropped slightly, from 7.1 percent to 7 percent. The rate for last September was 8.8 percent.

• Norwood's rate increased from 6.3 percent in August to 6.4 percent last month. The rate last year was 7.4 percent.
• Plainville saw its rate fall from 8.1 percent to 8 percent, while last year's rate was 9.9 percen
• Stoughton's rate jumped in September, going from 6.6 percent to 7.1 percent. The rate last year was 8.2 percent.
• Wrentham saw its unemployment rate remain steady over the month of September at 6.2. Last September's rate, though, was 7 percent.
