Temple Sinai of Sharon honors 2014 Unsung Heroes & Heroines & Lifetime Achievement Award Winners

(June 11, 2014, SHARON, MA) – At an emotion-filled reception punctuated by laughter and tears, Temple Sinai of Sharon paid tribute to nearly two-dozen Temple members for their outstanding volunteer service to the congregation.

More than 160 guests filled Temple Sinai’s Social Hall for the Second Annual Unsung Heroes/Heroines & Lifetime Achievement Awards Reception on Sunday, June 8, and the chance to hear Massachusetts State Treasurer Steve Grossman talk about his own experiences with Jewish community service.

Describing his late grandfather’s emphasis on the importance of having a family, educating his children, owning a business, and giving back to his community, Grossman spoke about the way those words impacted his own moral compass. His talk was followed by the Awards ceremony, during which each of the 2014 Unsung Hero/Heroine and Lifetime Achievement Award winners was presented with a beautifully crafted commemorative sculpture and an engraved leaf on Temple Sinai’s Tree of Life.

The 2014 Unsung Heroes and Heroines included eight long-time Temple Sinai members and 13 members of the Temple Sinai Choir. In addition, former Temple Sinai Presidents Audrey Wilson and the late Allen Garf, a former Sharon Selectman, received the coveted 2014 Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The Unsung Heroes/Heroines and Lifetime Achievement Awards were begun in 2012 as a way to honor Temple Sinai’s dedicated volunteers who frequently provide essential services to the congregation, and do so quietly and without fanfare. Since that time, the Awards have grown into the Temple’s highest and most prestigious honors.

  • Joy Goldenberg (Stoughton)
  • Sandra Levy (Stoughton)
  • Ronna Orleck (Sharon)
