Why We Need a New Police and Fire Station

I went on the tours of the police and fire station.  They are a joke and stand in the way of public safety, with things crammed together like on a boat.  And not a good boat, like one of those dilapidated ferries that sinks during storms.  They were not built to capacity the last time due to town resident frugality, so are severely under capacity now.  Let's not make the same mistake.

Statistics show that Sharon's older population substantially departs in their 70s and 80s for less expensive pastures. Those homes will be bought up by young families, as is happening in Needham and other communities.  The school age population will grow again with turnover of homes by older residents, and with  new residential developments coming someday to town.
Sharon has the second hottest real estate market in the state right now, after Boston, thanks to our rating as the Best Small Town in America.  The young family population will most likely rise again.  And even if it does not, these facilities are woefully crowded and outdated. I suggest some high school students do a video of each and post them for all to see.

Police, fire, schools, senior centers and public works are services you cannot regionalize due to response time and commute time.  The Town can look for savings in its other functions through updating of technology, which is already underway, and through regionalization where appropriate to save costs.  Few states have so many towns performing so many functions for relatively few people in relatively small areas, which drives up the cost of government.
