SHREWSBURY, MA — Construction is officially underway on a major accessibility improvement project at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, town officials announced this week.
The grant-funded project began on Tuesday and is expected to be completed by early June. Once finished, the upgrades will make it easier and safer for visitors to access the building and move throughout the property at 98 Maple Ave.
The project includes several improvements designed to better accommodate residents of all mobility levels, including installation of new ADA-compliant ramps and sidewalks, construction of a new sidewalk connecting ADA parking spaces near the flagpole to the Senior Center entrance and the addition of new ADA parking spaces adjacent to the building’s side entrance.
Town officials said the improvements will help create a more welcoming and accessible experience for Senior Center patrons.
“We are excited to offer a more accessible experience for patrons of the Senior Center and look forward to showing you the final results in a few weeks’ time,” officials said in an announcement about the project.
Construction is anticipated to wrap up by the beginning of June.
