SHREWSBURY, MA — A longtime Town of Shrewsbury employee has retired after nearly two decades of service across several local departments.
Denise A. Buteau began working for the town in 2008 as a part-time administrator with the Shrewsbury Fire Department, later moving into a full-time role supporting both the fire department and the Shrewsbury Council on Aging Department and Senior Center, Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations announced on Friday.
Buteau joined SELCO's finance team in 2014 as a payroll and staff accountant. In that role, she handled payroll, reconciliations, cash management and other daily finance tasks for the utility.
SELCO is a community-owned and operated electric utility that offers cable and internet service in Shrewsbury. The company said Buteau was known for her reliability, teamwork and willingness to help colleagues.
"Whether handling payroll, reconciliations, cash management, or the countless day-to-day tasks that keep things running smoothly, Denise has always been someone her team could count on," SELCO wrote in the announcement. "Her knowledge, teamwork, and willingness to help others have made a lasting impact on everyone around her."
In retirement, Buteau plans to spend more time with family and friends, stay at her cottage in Maine, try new recipes, stay active and explore hobbies including tap dancing, piano, yoga, meditation and learning another language, according to SELCO.
"Thank you, Denise, for your years of service, commitment, and friendship," SELCO wrote in the announcement. "We wish you all the happiness and adventure in your retirement."
