Shrewsbury Senior Center Food Pantry Seeks Donations

The pantry is seeking donations to help support older adults and families in town.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Senior Center Food Pantry is asking residents to donate food, toiletries and household essentials to help support older adults and families in town.

The pantry is seeking donations of toiletries, canned meats, vegetables, dairy items, cooking oils, pantry staples, cleaning supplies, paper products and snacks, according to the Shrewsbury Council on Aging Department and Senior Center. Donations may be dropped off at the Shrewsbury Senior Center, 98 Maple Ave.

The pantry is open to Shrewsbury residents age 60 and older for supplemental assistance and emergency purposes for police and fire. Residents may use the pantry twice per month by appointment on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and homebound residents with medical issues may arrange delivery, according to the town.

Needed items include shampoo, toothpaste, body soap, deodorant, conditioner, toilet paper, shaving supplies, canned tuna, chicken, ham, Spam, canned vegetables, shelf-stable milk, powdered milk, cheese, yogurt, pudding, olive oil, vegetable oil, canola oil, cooking spray, pasta, rice, oatmeal, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, soup, beans and canned fruit.

The senior center said it can also accept refrigerated and frozen food donations because it has commercial refrigerators and freezers.

Donations can be brought to the Senior Center during business hours, and expired food will not be accepted, according to the town. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8 a.m. to noon Friday.
