SHREWSBURY, MA — A school in Shrewsbury was among a small group of Massachusetts schools honored this year for student achievement and growth.

Oak Middle School was named a 2025 School of Recognition by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and was honored during a Jan. 21 ceremony at the State House, according to DESE and a state announcement.

“I’m so proud and grateful for the hard work, passion, and dedication coming from these schools that are being recognized today,” said Education Secretary Dr. Patrick Tutwiler. “They reflect what’s possible when our educators, students, families, and communities work together with high expectations and a shared commitment to success.”

Schools of Recognition are identified through the state’s accountability system for progress toward annual targets, with an emphasis on improved achievement in English language arts and math.

Oak Middle School serves students in grades 7 and 8 at 45 Oak St. in Shrewsbury.

The school’s 2025 accountability report lists Oak as “not requiring assistance or intervention,” with an accountability percentile of 89 and progress toward improvement targets marked as “meeting or exceeding targets,” according to DESE data.

State Rep. Hannah Kane (R-11th Worcester) noted the recognition in a recent update, saying the award recognizes schools that demonstrate educational achievement and student growth.
