Body Of Missing Man Found In Lake Quinsigamond In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, MA — A body has been found after multiple agencies searched Lake Quinsigamond after a man was reported to have possibly drowned near Sunset Beach.

The body of a man who was reported missing on Sunday afternoon was located shortly before 11 a.m. on Monday, Shrewsbury Fire Chief Seth Colby told Patch. Police did not share the individual's identity.

Shrewsbury police first responded on land and aboard the department's police boat around 3:30 p.m. Sunday. Initial first responders included Shrewsbury firefighters and Worcester EMS.

Crews suspended the search late Sunday evening and resumed at 8 a.m. Monday, when police said there would be a large police and fire personnel presence in the Sunset Beach area. Officials also asked recreational boaters to avoid the area while operations continued.

During the initial search, Worcester police, Massachusetts State Police, Massachusetts Environmental Police, the Holden Fire Department and District 7 and District 14 dive teams helped.

Crews searched from the shore and aboard surface vessels while divers and underwater drones worked in the lake. Shrewsbury, Berlin, Grafton and Westborough police also deployed airborne drones.

"The Shrewsbury Police Department takes the safety and well-being of the entire Lake Quinsigamond community extremely seriously," Shrewsbury police wrote in an announcement Sunday night. "We are committed to utilizing every available resource to protect those who live, work, and recreate on and around the lake, and we remain dedicated to providing a safe environment for everyone in our community."
