Car Bursts Into Flames After I-290 Crash In Shrewsbury

SHREWSBURY, MA — A vehicle erupted in flames after crashing off I-290 in Shrewsbury on Sunday.

The single-car crash happened along I-290 West, the Shrewsbury Police Department announced shortly before 5 p.m. All occupants escaped the vehicle before emergency crews arrived and suffered only minor injuries.

Shrewsbury police shared a video showing the vehicle engulfed in flames and sending thick black smoke into the air.

The vehicle left the highway and came to rest in the woods, WHDH reported.

Authorities did not identify the occupants or disclose what caused the vehicle to leave the road. The cause remained under investigation Sunday evening.
