SHREWSBURY, MA — A brand-new supermarket has officially opened in Shrewsbury.
Apna Bazar Farmers Market celebrated the opening of its fourth Massachusetts location with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday. The business at 539-571 Boston Tpke. offered opening day gifts for the first 250 families.
The Route 9 location was the former home of a Stop & Shop. The store was one of eight that closed down in Massachusetts in the fall of 2024.
Apna Bazar now offers a wide selection of Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi groceries, including fresh produce, spices, rice, atta flour, frozen foods, snacks and dairy products.
Customers can also find a 100 percent hand-slaughtered halal meat counter, fresh seafood, hot homestyle dishes, fresh juices, a sweet shop and a selection of artisan breads and pastries.
The grocery store chain operates three other locations in the Bay State, including in Woburn, Norwood and Lowell.
Shrewsbury officials, including the town's newest Select Board Member Anand Sharma, attended the opening.
"It was a pleasure to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening of Apna Bazar Shrewsbury," Sharma wrote in a social media announcement. "Congratulations to the owners Romy Selhi and the entire team on this exciting milestone! Wishing you great success as you serve our community and local economy."
