Annual Summer Reading Carnival to Return to SPL!

The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library, along with many other local sponsors, are bringing back the extremely popular Summer Reading Kickoff Carnival on Tuesday, July 1st from 2PM-9PM!  The annual event, which attracted over 1,400 residents last year, features events, games, food, and workshops for all ages.  This year will also feature character visits and a special evening event centered around a screening of the hit Disney film Frozen (shown with permission).  Returning this year will also be the popular author showcase, with many published and self-published authors stopping by to talk one on one about their title(s).  Patrons will also have the opportunity to purchase books to be autographed.  A preliminary schedule of events and locations is posted as a graphic here (you will probably have to click to enlarge the image to read the text), but note events and locations are subject to change.

Apart from buying books to have autographed, which is not required, everything is free thanks to local sponsors.  Supplies and seating are limited, so we encourage people to arrive early for the attractions they are interested in attending.  Unlike previous years, there is no registration required in advance or upon arrival.  Simply pick up a welcome kit at the door and you'll get your free tickets to play games and get food.

This event serves as a way to get readers of all ages excited about a summer full of reading and visiting the library!  We will have information on all three programs running through July and August - one for children, one for teens, and one for adults.

If you are a local business or resident who would like to donate a prize to be won at the carnival or during the summer reading program, please contact Young Adult Librarian/Volunteer Coordinator Dan Barbour at dbarbour@cwmars.org.
