Former Baseball Star Dies

Here is a list of Shrewsbury residents who passed away.

James A. Abdella: 72, lifelong resident of Shrewsbury, died Friday, Nov. 4 after an illness.

He leaves his wife, Joann R. (Molinari) Abdella; a son, James D. Abdella and his wife, Anneliese of Menlo Park, CA; his mother, Elizabeth A. (Daboul) Abdella of Shrewsbury; three step-children, Elayne Fikucki and her fiancé Darren Pinto of Rutland, Robert Pedone of Shrewsbury and Jill Muller and her husband, Michael of Millbury; a brother, Richard Abdella of Shrewsbury; also survived by six grandchildren, Annika, Thea, Will, Ana, Michael and Julianne.

James was born in Worcester and raised in Shrewsbury, son of Elizabeth A. (Daboul) Abdella and the late James Abdella. He graduated from and the University of Massachusetts-Amherst.

In high school and college, James was an outstanding athlete, lettering in several sports, excelling in baseball. After college, James was drafted into the baseball minor leagues, and played for the Cleveland Indians. Later in his life, Jim was honored and inducted into the Shrewsbury Hall of Fame.

Abdella was the president/owner of James Abdella Beauty Supplies in Shrewsbury for many years.

Joseph T. Forgeron: of Shrewsbury, formerly of Quincy, died unexpectedly on Monday, Oct. 31. He was 47.

Joseph was born on Dec. 8, 1963 in Lawrence a son of David Forgeron and Barbara (Berry) Forgeron. Raised in Quincy was a graduate of Quincy High School and The Culinary School of Art in Quincy. He had been a resident of Shrewsbury for the past eight years.

He had a talent, passion and love for food which became his life's work. Forgeron worked as an executive chef at Metro Café on Congress Street in Boston since 2003. Previously, he has worked at Finian's Restaurant in Quincy. Both while at work and at home he was known for his wonderful cooking.

His other interests included a deep love for music. He was a talented and self-taught drum player. With a keen interest in music he was always readily able to share information about many pieces of music from its origin and history, the artists who sang it and information about the music. He had a real gift from God when it came to music. Other interests included anything sports related as he was a devoted New England sports fan.

He leaves his wife, Jacqueline (Romano) Forgeron; his son, Tyler A. Forgeron of Walpole; step-children, James A. Tyler and Danielle E. Tyler, both of Shrewsbury; his father and wife, David and Linda Forgeron of Brockton; his mother, Barbara (Berry) Forgeron of Florida; his siblings, David "Davie" Forgeron of Florida and Michael "Mick" Forgeron of Quincy and Theresa Simkins and her husband, Tom, of Harwich; step-siblings, Larry Harkins of North Easton and Lauren Flipp of Middleboro; nieces and nephews.
