Healthy Research Subjects Wanted
We are recruiting women to participate in a two-year research experiment to help us understand how different types of exercise improve bone health.
To be eligible for the study you must:
• be a healthy woman age 25-35
• non-smoker
• be a normal healthy body weight (BMI 18-25)
• have plans to be within driving distance of Worcester for the next two years
• regularly consume dairy products or take a calcium supplement
• not be currently or recently pregnant, or planning a pregnancy in the next two years
If you agree to participate you may be assigned to participate in a one-year mechanical loading intervention at your home. The intervention consists of leaning onto the palm of your hand in a particular way, and takes about 4 minutes to complete each day. We will collect images of your wrist bones using a "CAT" scan at seven time points spaced over a two year period.
Compensation is provided for your participation, and some transportation costs will be reimbursed.
