Holy Cross Men's Basketball Plays Host To Navy On Saturday

The Holy Cross men's basketball team will play its second straight home game on Saturday, Jan. 30, when it faces Navy at 1:05 p.m.

The Holy Cross men’s basketball team will play its second straight home game on Saturday, Jan. 30, when it faces Navy in a 1:05 p.m. contest at the Hart Center. The game between the Crusaders and the Midshipmen can be seen live on the internet through Crusader Vision and the Patriot League Network. In addition, the contest will air live on WEEI 1440 AM in Worcester.

Holy Cross enters the game with an overall record of 8-12 and a 3-6 mark in the Patriot League. The Crusaders fell to Loyola (Md.) 71-54 on Wednesday night, and have now dropped five of their last six games. Holy Cross is currently in eighth place in the Patriot League, but is only a game and a half out of fourth place.

Junior guard Robert Champion leads the team by averaging 12.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game. Freshman forward Karl Charles has also been playing well, with averages of 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.2 steals per contest. Junior forward Malachi Alexander has added 10.7 points, 5.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game, while senior guard Cullen Hamilton is chipping in with 8.9 points and 2.7 boards per contest.

Navy stands 15-6 overall this season and 6-2 in the Patriot League. The Midshipmen were defeated by American 63-58 on Wednesday night, snapping a six-game winning streak. Navy also owns an impressive 8-1 record in true road games this year, with the lone loss coming at Bucknell.

Sophomore guard Shawn Anderson leads the Midshipmen by averaging 12.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while hitting 50.3 percent (100 of 199) of his field goal attempts. Sophomore forward Jace Hogan is averaging 10.2 points and 5.5 boards per contest, while senior center Will Kelly has added 9.2 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game.

After the contest with Navy, the Crusaders will travel to American for a 7:30 p.m. game on Monday, Feb. 1.
