House Fire, Crashes: Busy Week For Shrewsbury First Responders
Two nasty accidents left cars mangled on Shrewsbury roads and a fire completely destroyed one home.
SHREWSBURY, MA — Last week was a busy one for Shrewsbury first responders. From Thursday through Saturday, crews were busy answering calls for crashes and a fire.
Starting on Saturday, a two car crash on Centech Boulevard left one person trapped inside their car. The head-on collision crumpled in the front side of both cars. Fire crews had to used the jaws of life to rescue one person from their car. They were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
On Friday night another car crash brought first responders to Shrewsbury streets. The crash happened on Route 9 near Lake Street around midnight. One of the passengers was ejected from their car — police reminded residents about the importance of wearing a seatbelt while driving.

On Saturday morning, fire crews were called to a house fire on Manor Road. The blaze was called in at 7:45 a.m. — the caller told dispatchers that all of the residents made it out of the house safely but the fire was still burning. Fire officials said it took crews less than three minutes to get to the scene and start battling the blaze.
The fire started on the outside of the home and had completely taken over the first floor, rapidly spreading through the vents and outside siding to the attic, officials said. They added that water supply to the fire truck's apparatus was delayed due to a frozen hydrant.
