Ice Fishers Rescued By Shrewsbury, Northborough Crews

The ice fishers and good samaritans trying to help, fell through the ice in Boylston Pond.

BOYLSTON, MA — Four people fell through the ice in Rocky Pond in Boylston on Monday afternoon. Shrewsbury and Northborough rescue crews sprang into action to help Boylston first responders rescue the group.

Around 2 p.m. an ice fisherman fell through the ice and three good samaritans tried to save him, falling through themselves. To rescue the group from the icy waters, first responders used Shrewsbury's Hovercraft. Several other departments helped in the rescue including Berlin Fire Department, Clinton Fire Department, Northborough Fire Department, and Shrewsbury Fire.

One person was taken to the hospital for symptoms of hypothermia, three others were treated on scene and released.

Fire officials used the incident as a cautionary tale for residents not to wander out onto the ice.
