Phil and Merilyn Mulcahey bought Sunset Beach around 1940. There they raised six daughters and one son who all still reside in . Many still help out with the responsibilities of running the beach.

All of the twelve grandchildren have worked or still work at the beach during the summer months either life-guarding, running the refreshment shack, renting out the boats and more.
