Shrewsbury Middle School Employee Receives Superintendent’s Award

SHREWSBURY, MA — A familiar face at Sherwood Middle School has received districtwide recognition for his service to students and staff.

Custodian Sammy Kuditchar, known to students as “Mr. K,” received the Superintendent’s Award this week for his work keeping the school safe, clean and welcoming, according to the Town of Shrewsbury.

Kuditchar greets students by name, connects with them throughout the school day and models kindness, respect, responsibility and pride in the school community, town officials said.

“Sammy exemplifies selfless service and reminds us every day that some of the most meaningful contributions to a school community happen quietly, consistently, and with genuine care for others,” Principal Jonathan Kelly said in his award recommendation.

Shrewsbury Public Schools has described the Superintendent’s Awards as annual honors presented to employees for extraordinary service to the district. The awards are traditionally given at the district’s beginning-of-year staff gathering, according to a 2025 superintendent’s update.
