Shrewsbury Police Hiring New Officers Outside Civil Service List

The department said it has begun hiring 50 percent of its officers separately from the civil service list.

SHREWSBURY, MA — The Shrewsbury Police Department is recruiting new officers under a hiring process that now includes candidates outside the traditional civil service list.

The department said it has begun hiring 50 percent of its officers separately from the civil service list while continuing to draw the other 50 percent of new recruits from that list. POST-certified and academy-trained officers are highly preferred in the current hiring round.

SPD is advertising police officer positions with a salary range of $67,063.43 to $103,379.81, depending on experience and education.

Officers have access to multiple opportunities and specialty positions. Benefits also include disability coverage, paid time off, insurance on day one and participation in the pension system, according to the police department.
