Local residents can head to the senior center this week to chat with local police.

SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police this week will begin a new caffeinated community service.

The department will host its first "coffee with a cop" event at the senior center on Friday, giving residents the chance to meet and greet police over coffee.

"Come and join us for our first "Coffee with a Cop" event! This is a great opportunity for officers and our residents to connect on a personal level in a relaxed environment. All are welcome to come grab a coffee and chat, we hope to see you there!" the department said in a Facebook announcement.

Many local police departments hold regular coffee-with-a-cop events. State police also hold similar events around the state. Shrewsbury's coffee chat will run from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the senior center, 98 Maple Ave.
