Shrewsbury Police Log Over 350 Lake Incidents In July
Shrewsbury police handled more incidents in July than in June, according to newly released department data.
SHREWSBURY, MA — Shrewsbury police responded to hundreds of incidents on local waterways last month as officers continued boating safety patrols.
The department recorded 4,599 total incidents in July, including 990 calls to 911, 18 arrests and 16 criminal summonses. Police also handled 358 incidents on Lake Quinsigamond and Flint Pond.
Since June 1, the department’s Marine Unit has removed or denied entry to 113 boats and Jet Skis. Police said some were removed for unsafe operation while others lacked required safety equipment during boat ramp inspections.

“Our Marine Unit continues to work hard throughout the boating season to keep everyone enjoying Lake Quinsigamond and Flint Pond safe,” police said in a Saturday announcement. “These safety checks and proactive enforcement are about more than issuing violations — they are about preventing crashes, injuries, and potentially saving lives.”
The department conducts seasonal marine patrols focused on boating safety, environmental law enforcement and equipment inspections, according to the town.

July Police Activity Compared With June
July’s total incident count was up slightly from 4,549 in June while 911 calls increased from 973 to 990. Lake incidents fell from 439 to 358, according to the department’s June statistics.
Arrests dropped from 20 in June to 18 in July while criminal summonses increased from nine to 16. Motor vehicle stops declined from 600 to 563.

Other July totals included 241 medical calls, 178 suspicious person reports, 132 accidents or disabled vehicles, 72 burglar alarms, 66 well-being checks, 64 investigations and 54 animal complaints.
Police also recorded 45 disputes or disturbances, 18 larcenies or shopliftings, 17 domestic disputes, 14 threats or assaults, seven identity theft reports, six missing person reports and one OUI involving alcohol or drugs.
Police urged boaters to slow down, remain alert, operate responsibly and confirm that all required safety equipment is aboard before launching.
