Shrewsbury Woman Cops To Steroid Trafficking: Feds

The 29-year-old pleaded guilty to a conspiracy charge in federal court Thursday.

SHREWSBURY, MA – A Shrewsbury woman admitted to her role in a nationwide steroid trafficking operation Thursday in federal court. Kathryn Green, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

Five others have been charged in the alleged conspiracy.

Federal authorities allege that between approximately May 2015 and April 2017, the defendants manufactured steroid products made from raw materials purchased overseas and marketed them as "Onyx" steroids using labels ordered from overseas suppliers. Onyx, a legitimate pharmaceutical company owned by Amgen Inc., does not manufacture steroids.

The defendants allegedly sold the steroids to customers across the United States using email and social media platforms, collected payment through money remitters such as Western Union and MoneyGram and used fake IDs and multiple remitter locations to pick up the payments. Some of the defendants allegedly laundered the money from the sales through Wicked Tan LLC, a tanning business in Beverly, which federal authorities said they owned and operated specifically for that purpose.

Green's roles in the conspiracy were to pay another defendant to ship steroids and collect payments from customers, the USAO said.

Sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 9. The charge of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances carries a sentence of no greater than five years in prison, three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000 or twice the gross gain or loss of the conspiracy.

The remaining defendants have not been convicted.
